TORONTO — The Friends of We Care Foundation raised $190,000 through its 2016 Toronto Bowling Challenge to help give children with disabilities barrier-free camp experiences.

The annual event took place last week, bringing together teams from the Greater Toronto Area’s foodservice industry. Participating teams raised funds and dressed in their best Canadian-inspired costumes to celebrate the approach of Canada’s sesquicentennial and enjoy a day of bowling and refreshments.

Teams competed to win prizes for top fundraiser, as well as the best-dressed team. This year, the team from Cardinal Meat Specialists claimed the title of top fundraiser with nearly $64,000 raised. Last year’s winner, Sysco Canada came a close second with $60,000 raised.

The Toronto Bowling Challenge is one leg in Friends of We Care’s National Bowling Challenge, which has already completed events in Moncton, Halifax and Vancouver. Events will also take place in Calgary, Edmonton and Kelowna, B.C. early next year.
