TORONTO — Suresh Doss is making Toronto the home of Ontario’s first food truck rally.

Doss, the founder of online lifestyle magazine Spotlight Toronto, is inviting an array of food trucks to the Distillery District on July 2 for the first of three events dedicated to the growing food-truck phenomenon, the Toronto Star reports.

Doss’ Food Truck Eats event, inspired by food-truck movements in the U.S. and designed to be a simple “eating festival,” will include local chefs serving street food from tented stands. As for the cuisine, diners can hope to see an array of choices, ranging from tacos to cupcakes and poutine. El Gastronomo Vagabundo, Cupcake Diner and Gorilla Cheese — three out-of-town street-meat operations are expected at the event.

“It’s not just an abundance of food trucks [in other cities], but the scheduled meet-ups they had and the culture they have going on,” Doss told Toronto Life. “We already have some of the trucks [in Ontario], but they work on their own schedule, so it’s just trying to get them centrally located.”

According to the Star, Doss is planning like-minded events during Labour Day weekend and in the fall.
