Toronto Street-Food Vendors Given Green Light to Resume Business

TORONTO — Mayor John Tory announced Wednesday that all licensed food trucks, street-food vendors and ice-cream trucks are now permitted to operate in Toronto.

“Today, I’m happy to announce that after a review of the emergency measures regulations and recent changes, all licensed street food-vending, food trucks, and ice cream trucks in the City of Toronto are permitted to operate as of today,” he said during his daily press briefing.

He stressed that all operators must set up in accordance with physical-distancing rules — such as ensuring customers maintain a two-metre distance — and provide proper health-and-safety guidelines for their staff.

Tory noted that the fact the city is coming into the summer season right now means staff are looking at ways to reopen more outdoor spots and said he considers food trucks to be similar to the restaurant takeout services.
