Toronto to Welcome Mozzarella Bar

TORONTO — Mozzarella is getting renewed buzz in Toronto.

Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP (denomination of protected origin), a soft cheese made in the Campana region of Italy from buffalo milk, will be the feature ingredient at the Obika Mozzarella Bar, set to open on May 16 at the Brookfield Place on Yonge and Front Street, according to a Toronto Star report.

“The look and taste of mozzarella di bufala has something special about it,” Obika restaurateur Silvio Ursini said during a media preview, as reported by the Star. “The way it hits your eyes, the way it hits your mouth. It’s a multi-sensory experience that blows everybody [away].”

The Obika chain was founded in Rome in 2004, and the upcoming T.O. location will be the brand’s 17th facility. The Japanese-inspired resto will receive its cheese straight from Italy twice a week, and its menu will feature such items as a buffalo mozzarella tasting plate ($34), sushi-esque rotoli ($22-$26) and chilled organic tomato soup ($10.50).
