Uber Debuts Food Delivery App

TORONTO — Ride-sharing juggernaut Uber is diving deeper into food delivery with its new standalone UberEats app, which is exclusive to Toronto.

The new app will give users access to Uber’s expanded foodservice, which offers full menus from more than 100 restaurants in the Toronto area. The UberEats app also offers extended delivery hours and an instant delivery option that promises lunch delivery in 10 minutes.

Toronto is the only Canadian city where Uber delivers food, and Bowie Cheung, GM of UberEats in the city, said it’s also one of the most popular of the company’s 12 global food delivery locations. “We launched UberEats about seven months ago in Toronto and the reception has been amazing. Customers rave about the service; they love it and it has grown quickly, so it felt like the natural place to launch this app.”

Uber’s expansion marks the latest change for the rapidly evolving food delivery industry where global online company Just Eat acquired Canadian rival orderit.ca during the summer.
