CALGARY — Big Rock Brewery brewmaster, Paul Gautreau, is preparing to host his peers from competing Alberta brew houses to collaborate on this year’s edition of charity Unity Brew beer.

Michele Lowney, of Grizzly Paw Brewery in Canmore, Alta., started Unity Brew in 2009 to bring brewers in Alberta together to support local charities. Proceeds from last year’s brew supported the Kidney Foundation of Alberta, Canmore and Jasper food banks and the World Cup Academy.

This year’s batch of Unity Beer will be created by brewmasters from Alley Kat and Grizzly Paw brewery, Brew Brothers, Drummond Brewing, Banff Avenue Brewing, Jasper Brewing and Brewsters Brewing.

The 2011 Unity Brew will be held Saturday, Nov. 19 at Big Rock Brewery on 76th Avenue S.E. Calgary.

Details on the style of beer and release plans for the brew will be announced at a later date.
