VANCOUVER — Vikram Vij, owner of Vij’s and Vij’s Rangoli restaurants, is set to appear as a “performance chef” at the first annual Indian Summer festival in Vancouver.

Vij will be appearing at the Art of Indian Cuisine event on the Djavad Mowafaghian Terrace at the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts on July 13. He’ll prepare food to the sounds of live music by percussionist Ashwin Sood.

“The ting, tong, tangs of his spatula will be part of it,” Sirish Rao, the artistic director of Indian Summer Art Society, co-host of the event, told The Vancouver Sun. “Food is such an important part of Indian culture we had to include it. Vikram wanted to see food take the stage as an art form. For him ingredients are like musical notes to make melodies.”

Other culinary themed-events at the festival, which runs until the July 17, include a Literary Tea Service by The Urban Tea Merchant.
