ETOBICOKE, Ont. — The Planet Bowl in Etobicoke, Ont., was packed with almost 300 pirates yesterday at the Friends of We Care’s Pirates of Foodservice Bowling Challenge fundraiser, which raised $154,292 to send disabled kids to camp.

“There are things I can do at camp that I can’t do anywhere else,” explained Jacob Calvert (pictured, far right), We Care ambassador, while thanking the foodservice community for its support at the Bowling Challenge. “The fundraising today will help me get to go to camp.”

The sold-out event, comprised of 48 teams, was attended by foodservice companies and hospitality industry professionals. With almost $48,000, Sysco Canada raised the most money for the cause.

Meanwhile, in B.C. a similar bowling event took place. The newer Bowling Challenge iteration raised $20,500.

Bowling fever will continue across Canada in the coming weeks, with the Edmonton Bowling Challenge scheduled for Jan. 24 at the West Edmonton Mall and the Calgary Bowling Challenge scheduled for Jan. 25 at the Century Casino.
