Wendy’s Pulls Out of Russia

DUBLIN, Ohio — After three years in the Russian market, the Wendy’s brand is moving out of the country following a franchisee change.

“Unfortunately, the new leadership of Wenrus Restaurant Group has not expressed interest in growing Wendy’s business in Russia, nor shown they have the resources to successfully operate the existing restaurants on a long-term basis,” Bob Bertini, spokesman for Dublin, Ohio-based Wendy’s, is quoted as saying by Bloomberg. “As a result, we have decided not to continue business in Russia at this time.”

In 2010, Wenrus agreed to open 180 Wendy’s restaurants across Russia within 10 years.

The country’s eight Wendy’s outlets will be shut down.
