CHICAGO — Wendy’s may be primed to outperform Burger King in 2012, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Wendy’s, which has been undergoing operational and leadership changes, is expected to show increased sales by 1.1 per cent, while Burger King’s U.S. and Canada sales are forecasted to drop 3.9 per cent, the Chicago-based research firm Technomic Inc., reported, according to the Journal.

In recent years, Wendy’s has reinvented its menu and updated store designs; Burger King has also introduced new menu offerings. While, a Wendy’s spokesperson declined to comment on the possibility of surpassing Burger King, the spokesperson for the Burger chain did say the projections may not represent the industry’s competitive landscape.
