KELOWNA, B.C. — The Wines of British Columbia is celebrating 25 years of B.C. VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) with a visit from Decanter editor and consultant Steven Spurrier, who’s flying in from London, U.K. to tour wineries in the Okanagan Valley and taste more than 100 B.C. wines.

“It’s an absolute honour to bring Steven Spurrier to the Okanagan and a dream we’ve had for years,” said Maggie Anderson, marketing director of the Kelowna, B.C.-based British Columbia Wine Institute. “His exceptional wine knowledge, international awards, accomplishments and innovative ideas make him the ideal wine critic to showcase how far our industry has come within the last 25 years.”

Spurrier will present a keynote address at the B.C. Pinot Noir Celebration Aug. 22 at Linden Gardens in Kaleden, B.C. The special day will also include interactive breakout sessions with B.C. winemakers; tastings with 26 of the region’s best Pinot Noir producers; a canapé competition with Okanagan chefs Jason Leizert, Alex Sielmann, Chris Van Hooydonk and Calgary Chef Dilan Draper; a family style dinner by Artisan Culinary Concepts; and live music with local band The Young’uns.

A partnership with Visa Infinite is also inviting cardholders to meet and interact with Spurrier over a multi-course dinner with chefs Rob Walker, Vikram Vij, Trevor Bird and Dilan Draper at Liquidity Winery on Aug. 21.
