TORONTO — WineAlign has published the results of the 2015 National Wine Awards of Canada, a competition recognizing the best in Canadian wines. This was the largest competition in history for the Canadian wine industry, with 1,408 entries from 205 wineries across Canada. B.C.’s Mission Hill Family Estate was named Canadian Winery of the Year while the inaugural Best-Performing Small Winery award went to Ontario’s Thirty Bench Wine Makers.

The 15th edition of the National Wine Awards of Canada was judged in June in Niagara Falls, Ont. The wines were blind-tasted by a panel of Canada’s most-respected wine writers and critics. For the second year in a row, the judges were joined by acclaimed U.K. wine journalist Dr. Jamie Goode. Eighteen judges spent five days blind tasting the wines before awarding 14 platinum medals to the best one per cent of the wines in the competition. They also awarded 101 gold, 263 silver and 375 bronze medals.

“The National wine awards list is out and there are plenty of outstanding wines to delve into from across the country,” said Anthony Gismondi, co-head judge and principal at WineAlign. “Canadian wine producers have found their mojo. No longer content to copy the world, they are forging their own path interpreting our grapes and soils and producing wines with a true sense of place.” A complete list of the Top 25 Wineries in Canada is available here.
