TORONTO – Canadian fans of Scotland’s favourite blended whisky, The Famous Grouse, will be happy to know that the ‘black sheep’ of the family has arrived in major markets across Canada. With its bold, dark character, The Black Grouse blends The Famous Grouse with smokier Islay whiskies to create a peated, blended whisky with a surprisingly complex and smooth, long finish.

Various journalists gathered at Barchef, a new mixology hotspot in Toronto, on Tuesday, Oct. 20, for a nosing and tasting led by Marc Laverdiere, Canadian Brand Ambassador for The Famous Grouse. Food pairings and two funky cocktail preparations (see recipe below) featuring the Black Grouse were also provided. According to Laverdiere, “The Black Grouse gets its darker character from ‘vatting’ it with smokier single malts, on top of the Macallan and Highland Park whiskies the Famous Grouse is already blended with.”

Perfectly suited for the tastes of regular whisky drinkers and neophytes alike, The Black Grouse is available in New Brunswick, P.E.I., Ontario, Alberta and B.C. and retails for $30-$36.
