LONDON, Ont. — Buffalo Wild Wings (BWW) Grill & Bar has officially expanded north, with news the chain’s first Canadian location opened in Oshawa, Ont., this week.
“We are very excited to have this first international location open and are ready to serve our Canadian fans,” said Sally Smith, president and CEO of the Minneapolis-based wing franchise. “We’sve known for some time Canadians were looking for an offering like ours as it is truly unique to what’s currently available. We’sre also thrilled to announce our expansion plans are on track and we have recently signed four additional leases in Ontario, including London, Newmarket, Mississauga and Guelph.”
The opening day drew hordes of anxious diners angling to be one of the first 100 guests who won free wings for a year at the restaurant that specializes in the tasty morsels (with 15 varieties) along with beer (with 30 varieties) and sports (displayed on 50 large TVs and eight giant screens). The Oshawa location also boasts a full-size patio.
Buffalo Wild Wings’ move into Canada was announced last summer amidst controversy from the owner of rival Canadian chain Wild Wing who questioned the import’s right to use its American trademarked name in Canada.
Moving forward, the BWW team is hoping to open 50 company-owned and franchised BWW locations across Canada in the next five years.
