TORONTO — Canadian Beer Day returns on October 9 with the theme Canadian Beer: A Cultural Bond That Ties Canadians Together. The day is an opportunity to highlight beer’s positive economic and social impact.
According to Beer Canada, the brewing industry is an intensively local industry. Last year, 88 per cent of all beer purchased and consumed in Canada was made in the country, making Canadian beer a true leader amongst Canada’s agri-food processing sector.
The brewing industry contributes more than $13.6 billion to Canada’s GDP each year. Canadian beer supports 149,000 jobs across the country, spanning industries such as restaurants, hospitality, tourism, agriculture and transportation.
With 1,320 breweries currently operating in Canada, the industry provides highly skilled, well-paying jobs to more than 23,000 people directly employed by brewing companies.
