Canadian Brewers Among U.S. Open Beer Championship Winners


OXFORD, Ohio — Several Canadian breweries were among the medal winners of the 2016 U.S. Open Beer Championship, including Niagara College Teaching Brewery and Muskoka Brewery.

The competition included professional breweries and award-winning home-brewers “from Maui to Munich” who submitted nearly 5,000 beers in over 90 different styles. The entries were judged by U.S. Open judges from England, Canada and the U.S.

In total, 12 Canadian breweries took home 16 medals. Winners include:

English Pale Ale
Silver – Cream Ale, Muskoka Brewery

Gold – Arkell Best Bitter, Wellington Brewery
Bronze – Mill Gap Bitter, Neustadt Springs Brewing

English Mild Ale
Silver – Mill Race Dark, Grand River Brewing

Imperial Stout – English
Silver – Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, Nickel Brook Brewing

Imperial Stout – American
Bronze – Long Dark Voyage to Uranus, Sawdust City Brewing

Old Ale
Bronze – BEER 101 Strong Ale, Niagara College Teaching Brewery

American IPA
Bronze – Bronan, High Road Brewing

Belgian Pale Ale
Silver – Continental Drift, Nickel Brook Brewing

Belgian Quadrupel
Bronze – Through The Quad, Block 3 Brewing

German Lager/Pilsener
Gold – Little Norway Pale Lager, Sawdust City Brewing
Bronze – Captain’s Log Lager, Cameron’s Brewing

Silver – Sagemehl Stadt, Sawdust City Brewing

Vegetable Beer
Gold – Cool as Cuke, Muskoka Brewery
