TORONTO — Anthony Walsh, corporate executive chef, Oliver and Bonacini Restaurants, is the first toque to have his own “chef’s box” launched on foodiepages.ca, an online marketplace.
Walsh’s box is one in a series of boxes that will include artisanal food from across Canada chosen by a top Canadian chef, accompanied by recipes incorporating the selected products and a profile of the featured artisans.
“Canadians are careful about where their food comes from. The chef’s box celebrates the collaboration between farmer, artisan and chef. It’s a great way to discover and try great Canadian products,” said Erin Maynes, co-founder, Foodie Pages.
Walsh hopes his choices improve home cooks’ appreciation for Canadian foods. His limited-edition box contains nine artisan foods, including birch syrup from the Canadian Birch Company in Manitoba, partridgeberry jam from The Dark Tickle Company in Newfoundland and forest-blend mushrooms from Untamed Feast in British Columbia.
A new chef’s box will be launched each month. So far, a year’s worth of boxes are said to be ready for market.
