Restaurant Buzz: La Capital Tacos

0

The Asian tableware is an homage to the home of La Capital Tacos in Montreal’s Chinatown, however, diners aren’t restricted to spring rolls and dim sum when they venture into the 33-seat eatery designed by co-owners Geoffrey Moreau and Marie Turcote. Along with Moreau, co-owners Paulino Martinez and Rafael Hernández brought the traditional taqueria spirit to life for $150,000 using neon lights, ceramic, concrete bricks, unfinished floors, agave cactus and ethnic music mixed with hip hop and pop from the ’80s and ’90s. Some of chef Rafael Hernández’s mainstays on the menu of Mexican street food include the Pastor, with marinated pork cooked on a vertical shawarma grill and topped with onions, coriander and pineapple slices ($9); and the Rosarito, with beer-battered shrimp, topped with red cabbage and pico de gallo, and served with chipotle mayo ($12).
