Restaurant Buzz: Timber

Chef Chris Whittaker has opened a second eatery in Vancouver’s west end. The new restaurant, Timber, is dishing out a menu of Canadian comfort food next door to Whittaker’s Forage restaurant. The design of the 1,900-sq.-ft. space is a nostalgic nod to B.C.’s rich timber history and features reclaimed barn board, high ceilings and an 18-seat communal table. Timber’s menu includes items such as deep-fried cheese curds ($5), elk tourtière with a lard crust and house-made ketchup ($19); lobster club with lobster mayo, pepper bacon, iceberg lettuce, duck liver and fries ($24); and deep-fried Nanaimo bar with “double-double custard” ($8).
