KITCHENER, Ont. — The Berlin restaurant has announced that Benjamin Lillico will take over the role of executive chef following the departure of former co-owner and executive chef, Jonathan Gushue.

“Benjamin has an unparalleled understanding of local ingredients and palates and will keep the elements of The Berlin that our guests know and love while using his expertise and creativity to take The Berlin to the next level,” says Ryan Lloyd-Craig, owner of The Berlin.

Lillico was named to OHI’s Top 30 Under 30 in 2015 and captained Junior Culinary Team Canada at the 2016 Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany. He joins The Berlin from Cambridge, Ont.’s Langdon Hall. Lillico has also led kitchens with The Charcoal Group Restaurants and has held mentorship roles with Conestoga College.

“Joining The Berlin is very exciting and humbling for me,” says Lillico. “Chef Gushue has done incredible things here and already created a legacy for this restaurant — I’m excited to build on that and add my own flavours and creations to the cuisine.”
