Industry Mourns Passing of Domenico Ciccocioppo

TORONTO — Restaurateur Domenico Ciccocioppo has died at the age of 74. Ciccocioppo came to Canada from Italy in the 1960s and quickly made a name for himself in the highly competitive hospitality industry with restaurants such as Gourmet Pique-Nique, Bumpkins, Old Angelo’s and, for the last 20 years, the award-winning Oro on Elm St. in Toronto.

Food and wine were his passion, but only second to his family and friends. Ciccocioppo enjoyed weekends with his family at his 100-acre farm and his Sunday lunch parties with his wife of 51 years, Connie, were legendary.

He died suddenly on Oct. 16, from a heart attack. The funeral will be held Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Clare’s Catholic Church in Toronto. In addition to flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, or Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation in Ciccocioppo’s name would be appreciated by the family.
