GUELPH, Ont. — The University of Guelph’s College of Business and Economics will honour wine icon Donald Ziraldo with an honorary degree at its convocation ceremony on June 12.

Donald Ziraldo, a Canadian winemaker and businessman and a Member of the Order of Canada, has often been hailed as one of the most important figures in Canadian wine history. He has been credited with starting the first winery in Canada since Prohibition. He and his business partner, winemaker Karl Kaiser, were the founders of Inniskillin Winery in Niagara, Ont.

In conferring honorary degrees, the university seeks to honour individuals whose accomplishments demonstrate a standard of excellence it hopes will inspire our graduates. Candidates are considered from a broad range of categories, including achievements in the arts and sciences, business, public-service, professions, voluntary service in the community at large, or service of long-standing or exceptional merit to the university.
