IDDBA has established long-standing connections with the communities it serves, from its growing number of members to educational institutions and up and coming talent, says Haaf. “The IDDBA Show is one of the ways we proudly give back.”
Donating food to the host communities has been an integral part of IDDBA’s history, he adds. “Food security concerns are prevalent in all communities. Coordinating the donation of food allows the IDDBA community to support efforts to feed those in need.”
A common need amongst members is finding and developing future talent. To that end, each year IDDBA partners with local culinary institutes to encourage students considering a career in the industry. This year it has selected Houston’s own Culinary Institute Lenotre. “Students will get to walk the floor, make connections, and explore employment opportunities,” says Atkins. “It’s a way for us to give back to the next generation.”
“Not only does this provide students with a chance to enjoy a hands-on experience and explore a world of opportunities throughout our key industries, it allows members and attendees to meet the brightest upcoming talents in person,” says Haaf.
IDDBA will also be announcing this year’s Growing the Future Scholarship recipients. The scholarships provide up to $2,000 to support eligible college, technical school, and grad school students.
