Joey Restaurants Expands to Sherway Gardens

VANCOUVER — Joey Restaurants is gearing up to premier its latest unit at Sherway Gardens in Mississauga, Ont., which is opening Feb. 18.

The open-concept, industrial-inspired design features an antique French Brillie station clock and reclaimed Purington and Danville brick walls, in addition to an open bar and kitchen. “One of my favourite pieces in this restaurant is the 1972 vintage artwork in the lounge. Salvaged off the MV Island Venture, it is a sculpted copper installation romanticizing the story of ocean travel by Norwegian sculptor Arne Vinje Gunnerond,” says Carol Kelley, designer of Joey Sherway. “It has a very art deco feel; it depicts an old Viking ship with hidden elements in each of the eleven panels.”

The layout allows guests to watch the action inside the open kitchen. “There is a lot of exciting components that happen in the kitchen and guests will now be able to see that,” says chef Chris Mills. “This includes everything from our sushi chefs in action, the process behind using liquid nitrogen in made-to-order ice cream and our feature rotisserie chicken program with globally inspired sauces that change daily.”

Guests will also be able to pay using the new mobile app, Joey Pay for iPhone, where they enter the four-digit code on the bottom of their receipt into the app. They will also be able to retrieve a copy of the transaction and view itemized receipts.
