TORONTO — Liberty Entertainment Group (LEG) is launching the first-ever Young Chef Young Waiter contest (YCYW) in Canada. The competition is open to chefs and servers under the age of 26 based in Canada and focuses on sustainability in hospitality while supporting the education and development of homegrown talent. The YCYW contest was first established in 1979 in the U.K., and will be organized by Nth Degree Global, in partnership with UK Hospitality and the Restaurant Association.

Contest entries will close on September 16 and then the judging panel will shortlist six finalists for both categories. The finalists will face culinary and service challenges in front of a panel of experts. The live, two-day Canadian Finals will take place in Toronto in October. Winners will move on to the World Finals, scheduled for November 15 to 17 in Monaco, France.

“We are honoured to partner with our international colleagues to bring this initiative to Canada, which underscores Liberty Group’s ongoing commitment to furthering our superlative local talent in the hospitality industry. It gives me great pleasure to be title partner of this event in Canada,” says Nick Di Donato, president and CEO, LEG.
