CHICAGO — The Chicago-based North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) and Pennsylvania-based ASTM International have designed a Sustainability Calculator that provides a standard method for foodservice and equipment manufacturers to measure and report the environmental impact of products.“Manufacturers and operators will use the Sustainability Calculator to communicate environmental impact information in a consistent fashion,” explains NAFEM president, Steven Follett, president, CEO and chairman, Follett Ice.
“Doing business today means being more mindful, and having a way to measure the impact of foodservice equipment and supplies is a great advantage.”
The tool’s Excel spreadsheet identifies specific environmental factors and calculates a total score.
The information is used to clarify environmental impact factors, allow product comparisons and provide data that may be used to prepare LEED submittals.
The Sustainability Calculator works in conjunction with NAFEM’s Life Cycle Total Cost of Ownership Model. To order either tool, visit nafem.org.
