New Boulangerie Grissol Sweet Thins Launces Across Canada

KITCHENER, Ont. – Canada is a country of snackers, munching away for enjoyment, indulgence and convenience[1]. To help Canadians find a delicious, portable snack that is also unique from the countless options in the snack aisle, Dare Foods Limited has introduced Boulangerie Grissol® Sweet Thins™. These thin, crispy slices of bakery-style loaves are baked, sliced and toasted and conveniently portion-packaged.  With only 80 calories per pack and no artificial flavours, they are the perfect on-the-go snack for a sweet indulgence.

To create Sweet Thins™, Boulangerie Grissol took its 70 years of experience in perfecting the fine bread-making craft as well as inspiration from its Melba Toast line (known for its crisp, thinly-sliced toasts). With a toasted texture similar to Melba Toast, but with the added twist of using dessert-like loaves such as banana bread, chocolate brownie and lemon poppy seed, these sweet snacks are made by baking, slicing and toasting fresh loaves.

“Snacking is an enjoyable part of Canadians’ lives. We wanted to make a product that is delicious without being high in calories, that Canadians could enjoy while on the go,” said Kelly McInenly, Senior Director Bakery Marketing, Dare Foods Limited. “We also wanted to create a snack that stands out from others on the market. With Sweet Thins™, people can indulge in their favourite sweet bakery-style loaves and satisfy their sweet tooth within their healthy lifestyles.”

Sweet Thins come in three flavours: Banana Bread, Chocolate Brownie and Lemon Poppy Seed. The crispy texture and sweet flavour make them a perfect accompaniment with many hot beverages, such as tea, alongside a hot chocolate or to liven up a coffee break.

Each 17g serving (2 slices) has the following nutritious features:

·         Only 80 calories

·         No artificial flavours

·         No artificial colours

·         No cholesterol

·         Trans fat free

·         Low in saturated fat

Just like the rest of the Boulangerie Grissol® lines, Sweet Thins™ are baked in Canada at the plant in Sainte-Martine, Quebec. All three varieties come in 102g boxes that contain six 2-packs per box (17g per pack). They are available at all major grocery and mass merchandise stores across Canada and can be found where you find Melba Toast. They have a suggested retail price of $2.99.

[1] Enjoyment is the number one motivation for 30% of snack eaters, although it has a downward trend from 2006 to 2009. Indulgence continues to grow in importance. Convenience is another reason that continues to be a strong consideration when selecting snack foods for 13% of consumers. (NPD Group/Snack Track Canada, 2009)
