VAUGHAN, Ont. — New York Fries has opened its first franchise in India as part of a master-franchise deal with Naveen and Anita Vasisht, Shailendar Kaushik and Sameer Sharma. This is the first of 35 restaurants planned for Northern India in the next five years.

“There’s been tangible and exponential growth in the QSR space in India, valued at an estimate of 16,785 crore (US $3,230 million) in 2018,” says Naveen Vasisht. “With 77 per cent of Indian meals involving potatoes, we believe the Indian market is ready for the premium French fry and we’re very excited to introduce fresh-cut fries and poutine to India.”

The 800-sq.-ft., 25-seat restaurant is located in the heart of Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi.

“We’ve had India in our expansion plans for some time but were searching for the right partner to bring New York Fries to the Indian market,” says Frank Hennessey, CEO, Recipe Unlimited. “Naveen, Anita, Shailendar and Sameer all bring with them a strong business acumen, an intimate knowledge of the Indian market and operating experience in the restaurant industry, including five years as franchisees with our sister brand, Montana’s BBQ & Bar. We’re thrilled to have them as partners as we continue our expansion of New York Fries in the Indian market.”Showcasing traditional poutine and hotdogs, the local menu variations include toppings such as Butter Chicken, Keema (minced meat) and cottage cheese — all familiar and loved flavours for the Indian market.
