Now Open: Bar Gobo

VANCOUVER — Andrea Carlson, owner and chef of Vancouver’s Main Street Eatery and Burdock & Co, has opened the doors to Bar Gobo, Vancouver’s newest wine bar located in historic Chinatown.

The menu boasts completely naturalist wines and bespoke cocktails paired with farm-to-table snacks to the sounds of good music. In the kitchen, chef Carlson has curated a menu of comforting plates, such as Beausoleil oysters with tarragon mignonette; anchovy toast; Caciocavallo-seed escabeche.

This year’s B.C. Sommelier of the Year, Peter Van de Reep, is leading the beverage program with a 12-bottle wine list and simple cocktail offering. The intimate 500-sq.-ft. space (formerly occupied by The Parker) accommodates 10 seats inside plus three seats outside, with physical-distancing protocols in place due to COVID-19.

In addition, Burdock & Co has also launched a Bottle Shop, with wine available for order and pick-up every Thursday to Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. A champion of natural wine in Vancouver since 2013, Burdock & Co offers the only natural-wine list in the city to have been awarded a Platinum award at the Vancouver Wine List Awards.
