TORONTO — The Chotto Matte brand has made its debut in Canada with the opening of an outpost in Toronto. The new location represents the third location under the brand, which is part of U.K.-based NZR Group.
Building on the brand’s success in Miami, the new location delivers Nikkei cuisine — an evolution of Japanese-Peruvian fare — in Toronto’s Financial District. The restaurant will feature daily promotions, à la carte offerings and signature cocktails.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to expand our brand into Canada,” says Kurt Zdesar, CEO and founder of Chotto Matte. “The city’s unique culture, energy and international community make it a natural fit for Chotto Matte. We are thrilled to elevate Nikkei cuisine in this vibrant city.”
The space boasts a Robata grill counter, sushi bar and a spacious terrace offering open-air dining. Chotto Matte will also be introducing AkACHAN, its first cocktail lounge exclusively in Toronto, which will host lively music and nightly DJs.
The restaurant’s culinary team is helmed by Jordan Sclare, who presently serves as group executive chef for NZR Group’s Chotto Matte London and Miami; Black Roe (London), Fucina (London).
Menu offerings will reflect the brand’s commitment to natural ingredients and carefully sourced produce. Featured dishes include 96-hour marinated, house-smoked chuleta de cordero ahumada (lamb chop); lobster and wild-prawn ceviche; Nikkei gyoza; and Lomo al la Parilla (grilled steak). Vegetarian and Nikkei tasting menus will be available at $30+ during lunch and $90+ at dinner, as well as bespoke “Chef Experience” menus available by request.
The bar menu encompasses a mix of spirits including Piscos, Japanese Whiskies and signature cocktails with a twist — such as the Yuzu Martini, with vodka, yuzu, lemon, basil and sansho pepper.
