WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. foodservice operators remain optimistic about sales growth and the improving economy in spite of a modest 0.9 drop in the January National Restaurant Association’s (NRA) Restaurant Performance Index (RPI).
“Restaurant operators reported positive same-store sales for the eighth consecutive month, and a majority of them expect business to continue to improve in the months ahead,” said Hudson Riehle, senior vice-resident of the Research and Knowledge Group for the NRA.
According to the NRA, 56 per cent of restaurateurs reported same-store sales gains between January 2011 and January 2012, down from a 69 per cent who reported a sales gain in December.
