SEATTLE — According to the Seattle-based coffee giant, Starbucks is pressing forward with an ambitious new renovation program. Not only is it outfitting its Olive Way location in Seattle with a stunning new exterior and interior, both LEED-registered, it will also be brewing up beverages of a completely different kind — beer.
The popular location in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighbourhood will still serve the traditional Starbucks menu items, but it will also add wine from the nearby wineries of the Pacific Northwest, as well as local craft brews to the list of offerings.
Starbucks has often used the landmark store as a testing ground for new product, and the move to start serving beer, wine and more savory snacks certainly fits the bill.
“It’s going to feel very different,” said Kris Engskov, Starbucks’s regional vice-president, in an interview with The Huffington Post.
“We’sre always working to enhance the Starbucks experience, and innovation — from our beverages and food to the atmosphere and design of our stores and our interaction with customers — is a way of life for us,” said the company, in a press release. “We have successfully tested new store designs as well as an enhanced menu in some of our stores within the last year. We are now applying what we’ve learned to create a new way for customers to experience their neighbourhood Starbucks where it makes sense while offering a late afternoon and evening destination.”
According to The Huffington Post, Starbucks plans to submit the construction plans to the city of Seattle on Friday. To see the entire story, click here.
