TORONTO — While restaurant owners still have myriad challenges facing them as the industry copes with minimum wage hikes, increased worries over food safety and consumer demand for cheap eats, at the very least, there appears to be positive signs that the Canadian economy is once again heating up after its recessionary slumber.

According to a CBC article, Statistics Canada reported that the national economy grew at an annualized rate of 0.6 per cent in the month of January. As per usual, government types were quick to credit economic stimulus spending for saving Canada from the fire, while other economists site an improving job market and an upswing in the manufacturing and construction sectors for the strong start to the quarter.
