TORONTO — The Niagara College Teaching Winery is the toast of The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair’s 7th annual wine competition.
The student-run winery took home Best in Show Red and Best in Show Overall prizes for its 2012 Dean’s List Merlot. “It is a real honour to be recognized for such a prestigious wine award, particularly with consideration to the wide field of extremely high-quality VQA wines from well-established Ontario wineries that this competition attracts,” said Gavin Robertson, winemaker at the Niagara College Teaching Winery.
Other winners include Port Dover-based Frisky and Gamble Cellars, winning Best in Show White for its Smoke and Gamble Chardonnay, Vineland Ont.-based Megalomaniac Winery took Best in Show Rosé for its Pink Slip Rosé and Sue-Ann Staff Estate Winery in Jordan, Ont. won Best in Show Dessert for its Howard’s Vidal.
