The Star: Community Council Pushes For Cap on Parkdale Restaurants

0

TORONTO — The steady growth of restaurants in Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood is a point of contention for city representatives and restaurant owners, so the subject will undergo mediation to determine how to deal with a proposed cap on restaurants in the area, reports thestar.com.

Restaurants comprise one in three establishments along Queen St. W. between Roncesvalles Ave. and Dufferin St., but Gord Perks, a city councilor, wants to bring that number down to one in four. The councilor hopes to combat some of the issues caused by the influx, such as raised rent for other businesses in the area, noise, litter and security issues.

Toronto and East York Community Council, and members of the restaurant industry, are set to meet with a mediator June 23. [thestar.com]
