TORONTO — TouchBistro has released its annual 2025 Canada Diner Report highlighting how, in contrast to their American counterparts who have increased how frequently they dine out and order takeout and delivery, Canadian diners are taking a far more cautious approach when faced with rising costs.

The report highlights what’s important to restaurant owners. By reviewing the report, operators can look to bring in new and existing customers in 2025 by avoiding price hikes, maximize sales with off-premise dining, embrace reservations and build their social-media presence.

Key trends include:

  • Decline in daily dining out: Canadians who dine out daily has decreased by 50 per cent since the previous year, seeing 30 per cent of diners resorting to getting take out once a week or more. Fast food is seeing a notable uptick with 25 per cent saying they choose fast food most often when dining out.
  • Cost-conscious consumers: Canadian consumers are consciously spending given the current economic climate. In fact, 58 per cent of diners say that menu prices/value for money are their top deciding factor when choosing a restaurant.
  • The advantage of social media: 88 per cent of diners are least occasionally reply on a restaurant’s popularity on social media before deciding whether or not to eat there.
  • Loyalty is stronger than ever: Loyalty is something that we know is very important when building a client base. The report found that 42 per cent of diners are part of a loyalty program making it more important than ever for operators to create specific promotions for their most loyal customers.
