VANCOUVER — Vancouver chef Giuseppe “Pino” Posteraro, owner/operator of Cioppino’s in Yaletown, has been named a Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, according to Scout Magazine.

This award is designated by Italian president Sergio Mattarella and recognizes individuals who promote Italian prestige and good relations internationally.

“I never thought I’d receive this award for doing what I do every day,” says Posteraro. “At the end of the day, we are cooks, but if we promote Italian technique and traditions in Canada, it’s an accomplishment.”

Posteraro’s philosophy is to pair traditional ingredients and recipes with modern technique to serve Italian food that is true to its roots, while keeping seasonal and local influences in mind.
