VAUGHAN, Ont. — After weeks under the microscope in regard to the quality of its beef, Taco Bell is highlighting its product by giving out free tacos to its customers at every location across the nation.

“You could say there’s been a lot of talk about our beef quality lately ― and we thought we’d set the record straight and let Canadians taste our amazing beef tacos,” said Dan Howe, chief marketing officer for Yum! Restaurants Canada, which owns the Taco Bell brand in Canada.

According to Howe, Taco Bell’s Free Taco Week is an opportunity to share key facts about Taco Bell beef quality, which, he says, begins with real ground beef simmered with it’s “not-so-secret” signature recipe of seasonings, spices, water and other ingredients to provide Taco Bell’s signature taste and texture.

“We stand behind the quality of our beef ― and want to share the facts with Canadians,” explains Howe of the tacos that are said to be 88 per cent beef and 12 per cent seasonings and other ingredients. “Throughout April, we’re airing TV ads that share the story of Taco Bell’s beef quality ― and we’re also sharing the facts with Taco Bell fans at our restaurants across the country.”

Consumers can get their free taco by visiting any Taco Bell in Canada between April 7 and 13 ― between the hours of 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. “Simply say the code word: ‘Taco libre’ ― or ask for a free taco,” jokes Howe, adding the company  is limiting the offer to one taco per day per customer.
