LONDON — Canadian wine lists are garnering international praise after three Toronto restaurants and one Banff, Alta.-based restaurant were awarded three stars in The World of Fine Wine’s inaugural World’s Best Wine Lists 2014.

“They are the first awards to acknowledge the importance of a good wine selection, as distinct from a massive compilation, in the modern dining experience all over the world. As we were judging, we had in mind the wise words of our fellow judge Francis Percival about the difference between ‘a great wine list and a mere list with great wines on it,’” said Neil Beckett, editor, The World of Fine Wine.

In London, England, a panel of global wine critics judged 4,000 wine lists before awarding 750 restaurants with one, two or three stars. Three-star Canadian winners included Canoe, Toronto; Harbour Sixty Steakhouse, Toronto; Opus Restaurant, Toronto; and Banffshire Club, Banff, Alta.

The World of Fine Wine is a London, England-based quarterly magazine with subscribers in 30 countries.
