Hostess Brands to Re-open Bakery

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Hostess Brands Kansas bakery is expected to reopen this summer, following a closure late last year.

“We fully expect to be in production and back on the shelves by the end of July,” said Michael Cramer, company spokesman as quoted by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Hostess Brands filed for bankruptcy last November and sold the majority of its assets after more than 80 years in operation. Apollo Global Management, LLC and Metropoulos & Co. bought the majority of the company’s snack-cake business, including Hostess and Dolly Madison snack-cake brands and five bakeries for $410 million. Among the products included are its Twinkies, Ho Hos, Ding Dongs and Donettes’ snack cakes.

The company is planning to hire about 250 people for plant operations.
