Chef D of Chef D Catering and Events and Hormel Foods partner was one of the first to try out the HORMEL® BACON 1™ Bacon experience when it launched in Canada in 2020. At the time he used it for catering services to support travelling entertainment events. He has been a believer ever since, using the product for large volume catering events and sharing its benefits with his peers.

“Freshness is important to bands on the road. Raw bacon took anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes to cook. Some people wanted crispy, others not. We always found we never really got great food when using chafing dishes. With HORMEL® BACON 1™ Sliced Bacon we don’t have to tie up our time on flat tops. Now we can simply pop it into the oven when it’s needed.”

Chef D loves the product so much he often recommends it to other foodservice professionals. “I gave it to a pizza shop owner to try who wanted to do sandwiches but didn’t want to cook and hold bacon. He thought it was amazing because he was able to get that hardwood smoked flavour.”

Before HORMEL® BACON 1™ Sliced Bacon, Chef D would occasionally check out pre-cooked offerings in grocery stores. “It was amazing to me how much better HORMEL® BACON 1™ Sliced Bacon tasted when I tried it. It saves me so much time on the road, and there is very little fat.”

“While the cost is higher, the ultimate savings more than make up for it”, he adds. “In this day and age when everybody is looking to save a dime. But cooking from raw, bacon often gets overcooked or wasted. And when it’s used to wrap another protein or vegetable, it usually ends up undercooked.
