Calgary Alderman Campaigns for Urban Market

CALGARY — Word is that city alderman Druh Farrell is pushing for an urban Farmers’ Market to open just west of 14th Street in Calgary, amongst the car dealerships in the area.

Farrell told the Calgary Herald’s Paula Arab that she’s pitching an idea for a temporary location, asking planners to create a plan on an interim basis that could develop into part of the West Village’s permanent development. “Pick a spot. What could be more perfect than an actual urban farmers’s market,” she told Arab.

The plan is to open the market daily, unlike the Calgary Farmers’ Market already in existence. And, although many residents love the idea, others are worried about things like parking.
