Candlelight Dining Anyone?

VANCOUVER — Everyone enjoys the romance and sophistication of a long and leisurely candlelight dinner. But have you ever participated in a series of candlelight dinners — featuring some 1,200 candles — starting in Sydney, Australia, passing around the world and ending in Vancouver?

In celebration of Earth Hour, on Saturday, March 27, Yew restaurant + bar at the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver will join 46 other Four Seasons properties to create a chain of candlelight dinners that will circumnavigate the globe. The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney will lead the cause, hosting the first special dinner at 8:30 p.m. local time.

Yew chef Grant MacDonald has created a three-course menu ($49) for the event, showcasing the best local and organic ingredients B.C. has to offer. Guests will be able to choose between entrees like line-caught Halibut with garam masala, pea shoots, tomato, ginger, grainy mustard and crème fraiche or local roasted duck breast and crispy leg with organic baby carrots, asparagus, shallot tarte tatin and Agassiz hazelnut jus.

Originating in Sydney in 2007 by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour has since spread around the world to more than 4,000 cities in 88 countries.
