ST. JOHN’S — A regional Gold Medal Plates-winning chef and contestant on Chopped Canada has closed two of his long-running St. John’s restaurants, The Telegram reports.

Chef Mark McCrowe operated the fine-dining concept Aqua, which was known for its locally sourced fare, as well as The Club gastropub, but the chef has been struggling to keep the doors open. “I’ve found myself in a financial hole that I no longer feel I can get out of,” McCrowe told the news outlet, adding, “It’s something that I had seen coming for a long time.”

The St. John’s restaurant scene has lost other restaurants in recent months, including Legros & Motti Classic European Kitchen + Bar, Papa’s Pier 17, Bianca’s, as well as Coffee and Company on Walter St. [thetelegram.com].
