HALIFAX — Dwayne MacLeod of The Barrington Steakhouse & Oyster Bar was named the Halifax champion of BattleApps — Canada’s largest chef-battle series, presented by McCain Foodservice and Underground Chef Co.

BattleApps is a cross-Canada chef competition that acts as a platform for independent restaurant operators to discover McCain products. In three 20-minute rounds, the battling chefs are given a new McCain product along with other mystery ingredients to create three different appetizers. Each dish is presented before a panel of judges who decide the winner for cash prizes.

“BattleApps is a great opportunity for local chefs to challenge each other, using McCain Foodservice appetizers, in a high-energy environment with a crowd full of their peers,” says Greg Boyer, Marketing director at McCain Foodservice Canada. “The BattleApps challenge also offers an incredible showcase for the future leaders of Canada’s food scene and McCain is proud to support these chefs.”

The first BattleApps competition took place in Toronto in November and the events have since seen chefs duke it out in London, Hamilton, Montreal and now Halifax. The remaining stops of the series include Saskatoon, Edmonton and Kelowna.
