Fran’s Celebrate 75 Years in Toronto

TORONTO — Fran’s Restaurant and Bar, one of Toronto’s oldest dining establishments, is preparing to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

“We are thrilled to have reached this significant moment in Fran’s history,” said Richard Kim, president, Fran’s Restaurant and Bar. “We would not have grown from a modest diner to a family owned and operated, multi-location group of restaurants without the hard work of our staff, the dedication of our partners and the loyalty of our customers.”

Owned by the Kim family, Fran’s operates in four locations in Toronto and one in Barrie, Ont. Last year, the newest location opened in the Food Building at Toronto’s CNE summer fest. It’s exclusive menu included the Thanksgiving Waffle, a fair favourite that generated its own hashtag and a segment on the Food Network’s “Carnival Eats.”

Fran’s is celebrating with a series of initiatives in preparation for the May 8 anniversary, including a new menu that expands on current comfort-food offerings; the launch of a customer-driven newsletter; the introduction of an Ultimate Milkshake menu; and the publication of a graphic novel/cookbook this fall.
