CALGARY — The execs at Joey’s Restaurants, Calgary’s fish-and-chips mainstay, are turning heads with the launch of Joey’s Urban concept, which capitalizes on the growing popularity of the fast-casual market.

The new chain serves fresh tacos, poutine, fish and chips, family fish meals, salads, snacks and beverages (including alcohol) in a small footprint with fresh food and counter service.

“People walk in and are surprised. It’s not what they expected. They see something different,” said Todd Perkins, vice-president of Operations for Joey’s Restaurants

So far, there are two Joey’s Urban locations in Alberta and B.C., with another expected to open in Alberta soon.
