EDMONTON — Members of Culinary Team NAIT returned to Edmonton with four silver and six bronze medals following a sweep at the prestigious Hong Kong International Culinary Classic at HOFEX 2011, Asia’s leading food and hospitality tradeshow.
“This is premier competition with over 1,000 competitors from across the world,” said Vinod Varshney, chair of the School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts. “The quality of instruction provided through NAIT’s Culinary Arts program prepared our students to compete side by side against professional chefs from over 30 countries.”Not only was it the first time Nait had been at HOFEX, but it was the newly formed culinary team’s first competition. Each of the team’s six members won at least one medal. The winners were as follows: Ashley Broad with two silvers; Petaree Poprasat with one silver, one bronze; Tiffany Sorenson with one bronze; Phillip Robodoux with one bronze, one silver; Jayden Kresnyak with two bronze; and David Leeder with one bronze
Culinary Team NAIT is a group of NAIT Culinary Arts students and instructors who compete at the regional, national and international levels. Student members prepare for competition through extracurricular training, where they refine skills taught in class.
