TORONTO — Pizza Pizza has embraced Earth Month and expanded its “Cells for Slices” campaign and is backing Toronto’s Clean Toronto Together campaign.

The Pizza chain’s Cells for Slices program — launched in 2004 — encourages the recycling of cell phones. Today, the initiative encourages the proper disposal of cameras, adapters, iPods and tablets. Throughout the month of April, Pizza Pizza customers can trade in their unwanted devices at more than 350 restaurant locations in Ontario, Winnipeg and Regina in return for a free pepperoni slice. All proceeds from the recycling program benefit Food Banks Canada as part the brand’s Phones for Food program.

“We’re offering an easy way to dispose of old and unwanted devices in a way that rewards customers,” said Pat Finelli, chief marketing officer for Pizza Pizza. “The Cells for Slices program contributes to a great program run by Food Banks Canada and is especially beneficial for the preservation of the environment and the individuals and families they serve.”

To date, Pizza Pizza’s Cells for Slices program has collected more than 5,600 used mobile devices. Meanwhile, the company is helping clean up Toronto by backing Mayor Rob Ford’s Clean Toronto Together campaign. The QSR chain is distributing garbage and recycling bags at participating restaurant locations in the Greater Toronto area. Read more here.
