BOUCHERVILLE, Que. — La Cage aux Sports is renovating store interiors to draw customers back to the sports-themed resto bar chain, after sales fell 5.2 per cent to $26.3 million for the 13-week period ended Nov. 30. The leadership team attributed the sales slump to economic conditions and lower average same-store sales.
As part of upgrading the customer experience, it introduced a new interior design, which recently premiered at the Boucherville, Que. location. The upgrades will continue throughout 2015 and will also include a menu revamp. “Considering the current business context and the costs associated with the implementation of our action plan, we remain cautious as to Sportscene’s short-term financial outlook,” said Jean Bédard, president and CEO of Boucherville, Que.-based Sportscene Group Inc., which operates La Cage Aux Sports. “However, we are confident our ongoing strategy will pave the way for increased competitiveness and profitability over the medium- and long-term.”
Annick Mongeau, a communications professional, has also been nominated to the Board of Directors.
La Cage Aux Sports has 51 units in Canada, 40 of which are wholly or majority owned by the company and 11, which are franchised.
